    Bosnian Recipes

    On Balkan Lunch Box you’ll find a perfect mix of traditional and contemporary Bosnian recipes. 

    We suggest you start with a bowl of warm Bey’s Soup, and move over to Dolmas, (different stuffed veggies). For those more adventurous, why not try the meat and potato pie, Mixed Burek? 

    For dessert have a taste of Baklava, Tufahije (Stuffed Apples), or Plum Pie.

    No-Boil Lasagna Bechamel with Mushroom Bolognese

    Chocolate Nutella strudel: chocolate infused flour caressed into dough, let to rise, smeared with huge chunks of Nutella, toped with egg yolk glaze, then baked. Tastes like heaven!

    Dolmas, or stuffed vegetables, is maybe the most recognizable dish from the Balkans. Ground beef is mixed with onions, garlic plus spices, and used as a filling for several veggies (zucchini, onions, tomatoes, peppers and Swiss chard), until it's all finally baked it in a tomato sauce based sauce.

    As if straight out of a cookbook for Bosnian royalty, Bey's soup is a dish you'll have a hard time forgetting. Luckily this okra delicacy simmered in a chicken based broth, finished off with a roux and lemon juice is here for your consumption.

    Baked Sauerkraut for all our foodies who are specific in their tastes. If you're wondering what to do with your fermenting leftovers, this is it!

    Sweet, tangy orange jam made from organic oranges. With only three ingredients, and completed under an hour, you won't find a sweeter way to start off your day. (And impress your entire family with your newfound jam prowess.)

    Apricot raisin walnut cookie boats: a simple cookie with a complicated name. Apricots and raisins ground in a meat grinder, combined with sugar and chocolate, then topped off with a walnut.

    Fig truffles with rum. Have you heard a sweeter sentence in your entire life? Dry figs integrated with chocolate and rum, then rolled in coarsely ground almonds for the win!

    Garlic, potatoes and kale are all that's necessary to make this invigorating stew. What we have here is a vegetarian dish to keep you full and energized until the next day's breakfast.

    3-Ingredient Savoy Cabbage Stew (Kupus Kalja)

    Breaded eggplant and zucchini: if you've ever had doubts about these two, now is the time to put them to rest. Tough but dewy eggplant and zucchini, dipped in flour and egg, then frizzled until a perfectly crunchy yet soft.

    Chicken turnovers: healthy stuffing made of combined veggies (bell peppers, corn, peas and tomatoes) combined with chicken breast, wrapped in dough and then baked. It's like a salad, main course, and a side all in one terrific turnover.
